Day Three

Currently at a Walmart outside of Indianapolis waiting on an oil change. I also stocked up on water and snacks for the road, but I’m disappointed that I’m out of halva, which is unparalleled in terms of snack food. Other than the water and dry roasted peanuts that I just bought, I’ve only spent money on 2 iced green teas from Starbucks and my dinner last night—an incredible pulled pork sandwich on texas toast (which, along with a 24oz beer, cost only $12, awesome!). So thank you with great love to Katerina and to Gibby/Melissa for providing my healthy sustenance.

Today I’m driving with the AC on for the first time, listening to my iPod on shuffle. It’s a glorious sunny day and my iPod is in a great stretch-unlike the rather maudlin selections I heard when I first departed on Tuesday. I don’t know of any Pandora or XM radio channel that would play Grandmaster Melle Mel followed by Chopin’s Waltz No. 12 in f minor, followed by Adam and The Ants. Good stuff. The clear highlight though was a two song hit that spoke to my current mental state and the reason for this journey. First, Robert Palmer’s “Let Yourself In For It,” which speaks of excitement and accomplishment along with all the headaches and trials that it brings. And that was immediately followed by the grand catharsis of “Peace” by Depeche Mode. I’ve included the lyrics below so you get the idea.

Depeche Mode, "Peace." by Martin Gore

Peace will come to me
Peace will come to me

I'm leaving bitterness behind
This time I'm cleaning up my mind
There is no space for the regrets
I will remember to forget

Just look at me
I am walking of incoming
Look at the frequencies of which I vibrate
I'm going to light up the world

Peace will come to me
Peace will come to me

I'm leaving anger in the past
With all the shadows that it caused
There is radar in my heart
I should have trusted from the start

Just look at me
I am a living act of holiness
Giving all the positive virtues that I possess
I'm going to light up the world

Peace will come to me
Just wait and see
Peace will come to me
It's meant to be

Peace will come to me
Just wait and see
Peace will come to me
It's inevitability
